CLEARFIELD – Michael Allen Wells, 36, of DuBois is wanted for skipping out on sentencing court in June, announced District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. on Monday.

On May 20, 2018, Trooper Ian MacTavish of DuBois-based state police charged Wells with possession of firearm with altered or obliterated manufacturer’s number, F2, plus two drug violations.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on May 19, 2018, MacTavish received a report about a stolen handgun and upon investigation, it was believed to be in Wells’ possession.

During a search of a local residence, MacTavish located the weapon, which reportedly had an “obliterated” serial number. It was inside a dresser in a bedroom where Wells had been staying.

On top of the dresser, MacTavish also located a wallet containing Wells’ photo identification, a small amount of marijuana and multiple plastic baggies.

During an interview with state police, Wells said he’d recently purchased the handgun from another individual.

On May 25, 2018, a preliminary hearing was held and all charges were held to county court. On June 21, Wells failed to appear for sentencing, and a warrant was issued for his arrest, Shaw said.

Wells is described as a Caucasian male who stands approximately 6 feet tall. He has brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with knowledge of Wells’ location is asked to call Clearfield County Crime Stoppers at 800-376-4700. All calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential.
