PHILIPSBURG – The movie, “Shooting Heroin,” which was filmed in Clearfield and Centre counties in the fall of 2018, is set to have several showings with a red-carpet premier to be held at the Rowland Theatre in Philipsburg on Oct. 17. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at heroinfilm.com.

The film tells the story about the opioid epidemic, which is a crisis destroying the heart of America. Residents of one small town have had enough, and they will take justice into their own hands to eliminate heroin from their community by whatever means necessary.

Director and Producer Spencer T. Folmar, a native of Clearfield County, said: “I was visiting my hometown in central Pennsylvania for Christmas a few years ago, when I was confronted by the devastation of the opioid epidemic that has struck in America.

“Where I was raised is not unique from many small towns and the heart of this country where illicit and deadly drug use is on the rise.”

Folmar is also holding a red-carpet premier at his non-profit theater, The Guthrie, in Grove City, Pa., on Oct. 25.

Showings are also being held at The Ritz Theater, Clearfield, on Oct. 27; The State Theatre, State College, on Nov. 1; and The Mishler in Altoona on Nov 8.

“I want every person to have access to see this film, which I hope to be as close to reality as it gets,” Folmar said.

“We want to engage with the organizations already doing good work to combat the epidemic in the surrounding areas.   We invite those organizations to reach out, so we can help shed some light on their efforts.”

For additional screenings around the country, please fill out the online form or e-mail at booking@veritasarts.org. For more information, visit www.heroinfilm.com.
