CLEARFIELD – A Hawk Run man charged with stealing scrap metal and then taking it to the scrap yard where the owner works to sell it pleaded guilty Monday.
Matthew Alan Wisor, 26, of Hawk Run pleaded guilty to two felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and felony conspiracy before President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman, who sentenced him to three months to one year in jail and two years consecutive probation.
He must pay restitution of over $1,350.
In March, his co-defendant, Nicholas Allen Rowles, 24, pleaded guilty to a felony count of theft by unlawful taking and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia before Judge Paul E. Cherry and was sentenced to 33 days to one year in jail, plus one-year consecutive probation.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the victim reported the theft in December after the items were sold to Novey’s Recycling in Clearfield where he is employed.
As part of their standard procedure, the business keeps driver’s license information from people selling scrap or recyclables.
The victim identified Wisor and Rowles as the ones who sold his stolen material and was able to supply police with the plate number of their vehicle.
The victim told police he expected them to return.
On Dec. 21, Wisor did return with more items stolen from the victim’s property in Woodward Township.
When police spoke with Wisor, he admitted to removing items from that location six times and selling it, according to the report.
Police next made contact with Rowles at his home. He confessed that he had removed items from behind his residence that belonged to the victim and then sold it to Novey’s.
When a trooper followed Rowles to his bedroom where he wanted to change his shoes before going to jail, the trooper saw several pieces of drug paraphernalia in plain view.
