CLEARFIELD – A Coalport man was given a lengthy state prison sentence for felony possession of a controlled substance Monday.

Justin E. Salada, 32, was sentenced by President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman to two to five years in state prison.

The charges stem from an incident in DuBois in January when Salada was pulled over by police after he drove through a stop sign.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, as an officer approached the vehicle, he could see Salada reaching down near the floor board as if he was “hiding or searching for something.”

A check on his information revealed Salada had two warrants.

When he was taken into custody, officers were reportedly able to see a small plastic bag with suspected methamphetamine lying on the driver’s side between the seat and the door.

While searching the car, police found more bags of a crystal substance, pills, synthetic marijuana, drug packaging materials, a digital scale and various paraphernalia.

Analysis by a crime lab concluded that the crystal substance was methamphetamine that weighed 2.78 grams. He also had 0.24 grams of substitute cathinone, commonly known as bath salts, according to the report.

In 2010, Salada was convicted of statutory sexual assault and indecent assault and was given a state prison sentence of three to eight years.
