CURWENSVILLE – A memorial fundraiser for inclusive playground equipment at Irvin Park was a huge success.
At Monday’s Curwensville Borough Council meeting, the park and recreation committee announced that the Pentz Family Carnival at the park was able to raise $2,300, which will go toward the $12,000 needed for inclusive playground equipment.
According to previous GANT News articles, the carnival was held Aug. 17 to celebrate the memory of 7-year-old Isaiah John Pentz. Pentz passed away June 15.
The council said there will be an official check presentation scheduled at a later date.
Also, at the meeting, the council discussed traffic control for the upcoming high school football games. Council member Robbie Moore asked about the status of the fire police. The council wasn’t sure if the fire department had an active fire police squad but will speak with the fire chief about it.
The council then discussed a proposed rental property registration ordinance. Code Enforcement Officer Tom Carfley said the ordinance is still in its draft phases, but it’s something that is needed in the borough.
Carfley said the ordinance would allow him to inspect rental units after a tenant moves out. Carfley said he can go on and inspect the units for proper electrical, plumbing, heating, water and sewage.
He said he would be able to make sure the units were livable before another tenant moved in. He said there were a lot of problems with apartments with broken windows, no heat and no water.
The ordinance is under review by the solicitor and will be advertised before it is adopted.
