CLEARFIELD – Three part-time officers have officially been added to the roster of the Clearfield Borough Police Department.

During Thursday’s regular council meeting, council voted to hire Dylan Kahley, Bryce Greene and Derek Reed.

Torin Martin had also been on the list, but in the past week, he received and accepted an offer for employment in another department.

Also, under public safety, council learned from Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott that the borough will save money by leasing six tasers instead of the initially planned two.

Stott said the company, Axon Enterprise, explained that they lease a taser for every full-time officer, and if the borough decided to lease fewer than six, as the department has six full-time officers, they would be charged an additional $1,200 surcharge.

As it is, the cost is $2,070 annually for the next five years, which Stott said is cheaper than purchasing.

Police Chief Vincent McGinnis added that there is a warranty with the tasers and they will also receive two practice tasers.

McGinnis reported on some statistics for June. He said there had been 107 traffic stops, 77 citations, 32 criminal arrests, six DUIs and nine drug-related incidents.

McGinnis also informed council that statistics for police departments in Pennsylvania can be found at the Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting System online, and anyone who wishes can compare department statistics.

Council also approved recommendations from committees including traffic control around the Driving Park for the annual YMCA Fair Fun 5K Run and closing Market Street from Second to Third streets on Dec. 14 for the Charity Ball to be held at Moena.

Also, Cherry Street from Front to Second streets will be closed Aug. 6 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. for National Night Out.

At the end of the meeting, council regretfully accepted the resignation of First Ward Council Member Brian Lytle, who served as vice chairman of the council and conducted Thursday’s meeting.

Lytle explained that he recently moved, remaining in the borough but changing wards.
