DUBOIS – A routine traffic stop in DuBois led to a Clearfield man’s arrest in a major drug bust, announced District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. in a press release Wednesday.
Daniel R. Peteuil, 43, has been charged by Cpl. Randy Young of the DuBois City police with felony person not to possess a firearm, three counts; dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities; and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, five counts.
Peteuil has also been charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, five counts; possession of drug paraphernalia; and selling controlled substance with no trademark.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, while on routine patrol June 6, Young observed a Chevy Malibu traveling along West Park Avenue. It switched lanes multiple times at an intersection and also had dark window tint, except for on its windshield.
During the subsequent traffic stop, Young discovered that the driver, Peteuil, was on state parole. Peteuil’s parole officer was contacted and responded to the scene to conduct a search of his vehicle.
An initial search uncovered a loaded handgun and a large amount of U.S. currency, Shaw said, and Peteuil was detained for possessing a firearm after having a prior conviction.
Further search allegedly resulted in the seizure of approximately one pound of marijuana, 349 grams of heroin, 238 grams of cocaine, 58 grams of methamphetamine and 138 grams of a white flakey substance.
Young’s search also uncovered three handguns, approximately $45,552 in U.S. currency, ammunition, smoking devices and drug paraphernalia.
Peteuil will be arraigned on the charges Thursday, and a preliminary hearing will be scheduled for June 28 during centralized court, according to Shaw. Peteuil remains incarcerated at the State Correctional Institution at Benner on a parole detainer.
This was a major arrest, Shaw said, as it removed a large volume of drugs from the streets of DuBois City. He thanked Young and his department for going after drug dealers in their community.
“The vigilance … to follow through and investigate an obscure traffic stop resulted in a major drug bust,” Shaw said.
