Penn State Berkey Creamery Named a Stop on State Ice Cream Trail

UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State Berkey Creamery has been designated as one of the sweet stops on the Pennsylvania Ice Cream Trail, a collaboration among visitPA.com, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, PA Preferred, the Center for Dairy Excellence and, of course, local cows, including those from the Penn State Dairy Barns.

The second annual “Pursue Your Scoops Ice Cream Trail” features hand-selected PA Preferred creameries with a variety of experiences — from an urban experience to a true cow-to-cone farm experience.

Berkey Creamery, under the College of Agricultural Sciences, is among the stops on the western leg of the trail; two other trails focus on the south-central and eastern Pennsylvania regions.

From June 1 to Sept. 2, those who visit five of the stops on any of the trails are eligible to receive a “Pursue Your Scoops” T-shirt. Visiting all stops on any trail will entitle an ice cream enthusiast to a shirt and a commemorative ice cream bowl.

Passports can be obtained at participating creameries or downloaded at https://visitpa.com/2019-pursue-your-scoops-ice-cream-trail.

“It’s pretty cool to be part of a new summertime tradition in Pennsylvania,” said Jim Brown, assistant manager of the Penn State landmark. “We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones as they pursue their passion for ice cream and for Pennsylvania.”

Penn State’s Berkey Creamery, the largest university creamery in the United States, produces ice cream, cheese, milk, yogurt and sour cream, as well as a variety of other products, such as juices, lemonade and iced teas, made for sale and distribution to the University community.

Cows from Penn State’s dairy herd provide milk for the Creamery’s fresh dairy products, averaging about four days from cow to Creamery treat. For more information, visit https://creamery.psu.edu/.
