DUBOIS – Garbage was the major topic discussed during the DuBois City Council meeting Monday night.
During the public comment period, resident James Main asked council members for some help.
Main said he’s been given the “run-around” while trying to resolve what’s an apparent unfair Advanced Disposal bill.
According to Main, he owes $698 for garbage service he’s never used and that he wasn’t even aware he was being billed for.
Main said he’ll pay in the future now that he knows Advanced Disposal is mandatory within DuBois City. However, he wanted help resolving this bill since he was unaware that was the case.
According to Main, when he moved into his current home in February of 2005, he used Veolia (before it was purchased by Advanced Disposal) for three months.
After his new home was cleaned, his family cancelled the service and Veolia agreed to. So far as his knowledge, he didn’t have garbage pick-up and he took his garbage to the dump himself.
Main said two years ago, he received a bill for over $600 in overdue payments from Advanced Disposal.
Councilman Randy Schmidt said Veolia shouldn’t have agreed to cancel the garbage service, because it was still mandatory in DuBois City.
Main said he’s been trying to find help to clear up what he considers to be “unfair debt.” He said anytime he contacts Advanced Disposal, he gets one of two responses.
He said he’s either told the general manager will contact him, which he claims never happens, or he’s refereed to DuBois City. He said the city just directs him back to Advanced Disposal.
“We definitely can’t forgive a bill,” said Suplizio, who then offered to contact Advanced Disposal’s general manager on his behalf.
During the regular meeting, council discussed concerns with regards to how overloaded Advanced Disposal’s garbage trucks have been lately.
Councilwoman Diane Bernardo said she watched a truck lose garbage while it was traveling near her residence.
She said to the driver’s credit, he stopped and tossed the garbage back onto his truck. She admitted she was skeptical that the driver would do this along state Route 219.
“It’s very easy to see where garbage pick-up is in the City of DuBois. There is a little trail,” Schmidt added.
