SANDY TOWNSHIP – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that work to rehabilitate two bridges on Route 219 in Clearfield County will begin next week.

The bridges span Slab Run in Sandy Township near the on-ramps to Interstate 80 at the 97/DuBois-Brockway exit.

Next week, flaggers will enforce short-term daylight lane closures as crews perform excavation work on the shoulder. These closures will primarily affect the southbound travel (right) lane. Motorists are advised to be alert for trucks entering and exiting the work area.

Beginning the week of April 22, concrete barriers will enforce long-term lane closures of the north and southbound travel (right) lanes. This will include a 12-foot width restriction in and around the work zone.

Overall work will include deck and barrier replacement, approach paving, traffic signal upgrades, guiderail installation and line painting. The bridge work is expected to be completed by the end of November. Final paving and pavement markings will be completed in the spring of 2020.

Francis J. Palo Inc. of Clarion is the contractor for this $1.75 million project. All work is weather and schedule dependent.

PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution in all work zones, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.

PennDOT encourages drivers to “Know before they go” and to check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting  www.511PA.com. 511PA is free, available 24 hours a day and provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 860 traffic cameras.
