PIKE TOWNSHIP – The investigation is continuing into a fatal DUI crash that killed a Clearfield woman, Clearfield-based state police say.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:45 p.m. Wednesday on state Route 879, west of the Old Erie Pike in Pike Township, Clearfield County, according to state police.
State police say the vehicle was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway, went down an embankment and hit a plastic reflector and trees.
Then, the vehicle overturned onto its passenger’s side and impacted another tree before coming to a final rest. The vehicle sustained major damage, and was towed from the scene.
State police say 41-year-old Christina M. Metzker of Clearfield was pronounced dead on-scene by Clearfield County Coroner Kim Shaffer-Snyder. A 46-year-old Grampian man also occupied the vehicle and reportedly attempted to flee on foot.
He was later located and under the influence of alcohol. Because of his injuries from the crash, he was flown to UPMC Altoona, according to the report.
C.A.R.S., F.S.U, Curwensville and Hyde fire departments, Curwensville Emergency Medical Services and STAT MedEvac assisted at the scene.
