CLEARFIELD – Students from the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center’s SkillsUSA Community Service Team are planning a big fundraising event for the Clearfield County SPCA.
They presented their project at the Clearfield Borough Council committee meeting Thursday night, seeking council’s approval for use of borough streets.
The students have organized a K9-5K event as a fundraiser for the SPCA with the hopes that it will eventually become an annual event.
The students explained to council they hope to use the money to purchase beds for all of the animals as well as kitty litter, food and other needed items.
In fact, they hope that the money raised will let the SPCA operate without financial worry for a while.
Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott added that the students created the event as a “package,” so that they can hand the reins over to the SPCA for future years.
The premise is simple, participants register alone or with their furry canine companion to run a course, beginning near the Grandstand at the Clearfield Driving Park on April 6.
The course will follow streets through Clearfield’s West Side, including Williams, Weaver and other streets, ending at the starting point.
The cost to participate is $20 per person and registration can be done online, with a deadline of March 22, or the day of the race up to 11:59 a.m. Registration includes a T-shirt and animal bandanna.
Award categories include overall first, second and third place for male and female and top three finishers, male and female, in the following age groups: 5-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50-plus.

The borough public safety committee recommended approving traffic control for the event and the full council will vote at next Thursday’s meeting.
