MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Junior Brandon Orsich (Clearfield) turned in a complete game for one of Penn State DuBois’ four wins, while sophomore outfielder Thayne Morgan (Clearfield) was one of the leading hitters for the Lions in their four-day stay at The Ripken Experience.
Orsich pitched a four-hitter in a 3-2 victory over Stratford (Va.) March 3.
The right-hander walked three batters and hit three in the seven-inning performance.
Morgan collected six hits and scored five runs in three of the Lions’ wins.
In a 3-2 and 5-4 sweep of Stratford (Va.) March 3, he was pivotal in the nightcap with three singles, a walk, two runs and three stolen bases after scoring twice after singling and drawing a free pass in the first game.
He added two hits, a walk and two runs March 5 when the Lions defeated Kankakee (Ill.) Community College 10-0 to finish the trip at 4-4.
Freshman pitcher Jake Sorbera (Clearfield) made two solid appearances, logging 1.2 hitless, scoreless innings with one strikeout in a 6-2 loss to Garrett (Md.) College March 2 and going 3.1 innings and allowing three hits and one earned run while walking two and hitting three in a 6-3 loss to College of DuPage (Ill.) March 4.
Sophomore infielder Zane Morgan (Clearfield) scored runs in starts at the corners against Stratford but had to sit out the last four games because of an injury.
Freshman first baseman Seth Bumbarger (Clearfield) made two starts at first base and appeared in another game. He had one hit in four at-bats.
The individual stats are incomplete because of no full boxscores for the opening twinbill against Garrett.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Freshman left-hander Bryce Timko (Curwensville) made one appearance on the mound for Lackawanna College at the Cal Ripken Experience last week.
In a 13-12 loss to Kankakee (Ill.) Community College, Timko pitched 2.1 innings and allowed four hits and four earned runs while walking two.
The Falcons swept Elgin (Ill.) Community College 7-1 and 12-2 for a 4-5 week and a 5-7 record.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Senior Jon Janocko (Clearfield) pitched in relief for Juniata College Sunday in a 9-2 loss to Loras (Ia.) that was the season opener for the Eagles at the RussMatt Invitational hosted by Central Florida.
The right-hander, who was a member of the Juniata football team for four years, worked 2/3 of an inning, giving up three hits, three walks and five runs.

WRESTLING
ROANOKE, Va. — Lycoming junior 197-pounder Travis Ogden (Clearfield) went 1-2 in his first appearance at the NCAA Division III Championships hosted by Ferrum College in the Berglund Center Friday and Saturday.
Ogden, the Southeast Region titlist, was edged 3-2 by No. 6 seed and Northeast Region runner-up Michael DiNardo of Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in his opening bout round but came back to beat Tyler Hammack of Heidelberg (Ohio) 4-2 in the first consolation round.
Ogden’s outstanding season came to an end when No. 5 seed Central Region champ Antonio McCloud of Mount St. Joseph’s (Ohio) advanced with a 14-7 win.
Ogden wound up 23-4, including 14-1 in dual meets, and will take a 53-19 record into his senior season.
Lycoming totaled 23.5 points to finish 13th in the 74-team tourney.
Led by four champions, Augsburg (Minn.) ended Wartburg’s three-year reign with 130 points, almost doubling the 66 of runner-up Loras (Ohio).

FAIRFAX, Va. — Freshman Luke McGonigal (Clearfield) was seeded second for the 2019 Eastern Wrestling Championships in George Mason’s EagleBank Arena Saturday, but the Bald Eagle 197-pounder lost both of his matches.
McGonigal was pinned at the 2:39 mark by eventual runner-up Eli Spencer of George Mason and then was decisioned 8-3 by Ben Smith of Cleveland State.
He finished with a 14-8 record.
Six Bald Eagles claimed gold medals to qualify for next week’s NCAA Division I Championships at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.
No. 21-ranked Lock Haven exited the EWL by repeating as team champion with 111.5 points.
Lock Haven is joining the Mid-American Conference for wrestling next season

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Sophomore Ethan McGinnis (Clearfield) placed in two jumps and ran a leg for the Slippery Rock ‘B’ 4×200 relay team that finished second at the season-opening Coastal Carolina Invitational Friday and Saturday.
McGinnis cleared 1.78 meters (5 feet, 10 inches) for sixth place in the high jump and covered 12.60 meters (41-4¼) in the triple jump for seventh place.

SOFTBALL
CLERMONT, Fla. — Freshman infielder Brooke Cline (Clearfield) continued to find hits hard to come by last week as Clarion was unable to break into the win column at the PFX Spring Games.
Cline played solid defense for the Golden Eagles, handling 25 chances with only three misplays in seven starts at shortstop, but she was hitless in eight at-bats.
She has two singles, two runs batted in and two runs scored in 14 games, all but one as a starter.
Clarion lost 15-3 to Cedarville (Ohio), 8-6 to Seton Hill, 7-6 to Bloomfield (N.J.) College, 9-3 to Malone (Ohio), 11-3 to Wayne State (Ind.), 11-3 to Northern State (S.D.) and 12-8 to Nyack (N.Y.) College to fall to 0-15 for the start of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action this weekend.
