CLEARFIELD – Several items of business were discussed during the Lawrence Township Supervisors’ meeting Tuesday.

One bid for a broom was received from BradCo at $36,000. Roadmaster Ron Woodling advised the supervisors to move ahead with the purchase, as he had been quoted a higher price before the supervisors asked for bids.

The township will also be advertising for bids on a 48-foot by 16-foot salt shed and also for 1,000 ton, more or less, of 2RC stone for summer work.

Last month the supervisors tabled letting the road crew start their four-day weeks at 10 hours per day in April with questions on whether they had to start at 5:30 a.m.

After some discussion, it was revealed that the workers begin their day at 6 a.m. in April and then move to 5:30 a.m. in May. The concern had been raised at the last meeting about whether it was too dark at 5:30 a.m. to be safe or effective.

After some discussion, the supervisors agreed to start the four-day weeks at 10 hours per day with the 5:30 a.m. starting time in May.

Under the roadmaster report, Woodling asked to have the paving roller they currently keep in Hyde on Munici-Bid and use the money to purchase a dirt roller. The supervisors instructed Woodling to get an idea on what the reserve price should be first.

Woodling also said the road crew is working to fill potholes when the weather is clear and warm enough.

Under the police report, the supervisors heard the statistics for February, including 57 criminal arrests, 144 traffic arrests, 72 served warrants, 173 traffic stops, 807 incidents, eight DUI arrests with six of those drug-related, and 13 additional drug arrests.

Two officers graduated from the Advance Roadside Impaired Driving class where they learned about what to watch for in regards to drug-impaired driving and tests they can perform. Zachery Cowan was also named Officer of the Month for February.
