CURWENSVILLE – Plans for a GaGa Ball pit are under way in Curwensville Borough.

At Monday’s meeting, the Curwensville Borough Council approved the project, which had been discussed in January.

Resident Jadon Doel had presented his plans for the GaGa Ball pit, which will be his Eagle Scout project in Irvin Park. Doel said he is planning to build a GaGa Ball pit in the park, near the tennis courts.

According to GaGa Center’s Web site, GaGa Ball gets its name from the Hebrew phrase “touch-touch.” The game is described as a “kinder, gentler version” of dodgeball.

The game is played in an octagonal pit, where players use foam balls to “tag” each other below the knees. The players must constantly move to avoid being hit and eliminated. The last player in the pit wins. The game can be played one-on-one or with teams.

Council member Tom Carfley said he had met with Doel and others and determined that it would be a better idea to put the GaGa Ball pit on one of the tennis courts. He said this would keep the balls contained in one area, and the hard surface would minimize issues with the pit.

Carfley said this would still leave one tennis court available for those who want to play tennis.

The council voted to approve the project.
