CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Council held committee meetings Thursday night and received updates from various offices.
Police Chief Vincent McGinnis is asking for those parking in the borough to be aware of where yellow curbs are. He said they have been having a problem with people parking in front of yellow curbs and the result is a $15 parking fine.
Recently, there has especially been a problem with parking in front of the garage doors of the old Leitzinger’s building, now used by The Progress, and in the bus stop area in front of the courthouse.
He said they understand that downtown parking is congested and asked that people be patient and work together.
McGinnis also announced that, thanks to a generous donation by a local family, the police department now has two patrol cars equipped with a dashboard camera, a camera in the back seat and voice recording. He said they have already proven valuable to the department.
McGinnis presented statistics for the department for 2018. The department responded to 7,504 incidents. The highest numbers were for building checks, welfare checks, parking complaints and so on.
But there were also responses to 38 fraud calls, 109 drug equipment violations, 37 DUI (alcohol or other drugs), 165 harassment, 63 public drunkenness, 86 disorderly conduct, and 140 suspicious persons.
There were five reported rapes, 23 assaults, five simple assaults, six reported sexual assaults as well as many other reported incidents.
The police department also bid goodbye to one of its officers. David Fye retired after 25 years of service and McGinnis noted he will be greatly missed.
Code Enforcement Officer Larry Mack updated council on the ongoing work at the Agway property on West Second Avenue. He said four vehicles were removed, most of the pallets and the collapsed building is being demolished and the debris removed.
Fire Chief Todd Kling announced that the fire company is holding a scrap metal drive. Those cleaning out their properties can take scrap metal to the dumpster on Power Avenue.
This includes bikes, appliances and any other scrap metal. This does not include electronics or televisions.
