CLEARFIELD – A local fire chief has been accused of misusing Lawrence Township funds since Sept. 10 of last year.

Shane R. Nevling, 35, of Clearfield has been charged by Chief Doug Clark of the Lawrence Township police with a felony count of access device fraud; a misdemeanor count each of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property; and six misdemeanor counts of identity theft.

The charges were filed against Nevling, the chief of the Hyde Volunteer Fire Co. Station 6, on Jan. 8 through the office of Magisterial District Judge Mike Morris.

According to the police report, Nevling used the township’s credit cards for gasoline and diesel fuel purchases in the Clearfield area. The fuel was for vehicles driven by he and his family.

Nevling allegedly stole around $600 from the township. He was arraigned at 11:15 a.m. Thursday by Morris and lodged in the Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Nevling is currently awaiting his preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Jan. 16 during centralized court at the jail.
