BENEZETTE – The Elk Country Visitor Center’s conservation education department has announced a full slate of upcoming programs for the learning enjoyment of the visiting public.
Jan. 19
Pennsylvania Black Bears, 2 p.m.
Whether it is awe or fear that you feel when you see a bear, you probably don’t know the entire story of Pennsylvania black bears. You can learn more about their life and survival in Penn’s Woods, as well as what scientists have learned about them over the years.
Jan. 20
Fishers, 2 p.m.
You can learn about this unique and elusive animal’s history and original range in Pennsylvania and why it became extinct in the region. Also, you will gain insight on how it was successfully reintroduced and is once again flourishing in the state.
Jan. 26
Skull-lock Holmes, 2 p.m.
Here at the center, staff members commonly get questions about animal bones and how to identify what animal they came from. You can test your skull identification skills with this presentation and activity.
Jan. 27Â
Elk Country Escape Room, 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Escape rooms are all the rage these days and the center’s staff has designed their own. Do you think you have what it takes to escape?
In this free escape room, the center’s elk biologist, Molly Werner, has gone missing and staff members need you to help search her office for clues to her whereabouts.
The program will run every half-hour from 12 p.m. – 2p.m. and is free of charge. You can pre-register by e-mailing KECAConEdSp@windstream.net or by calling 814-787-5173.
