CURWENSVILLE – After going 4-18 in his first season as Curwensville Area High School girls basketball head coach, Bob Desmett is back for round two in 2018-19.
The Lady Tide return five letter winners in seniors Madison Weber and Kaitlyn McCracken along with three juniors, Hannah Condon, Tarah Jacobson and Briana Swindell.
Weber is just 152 points shy of the 1000 point mark for her career.
Desmett thinks he has some depth this year, saying, “I feel we now have a pretty solid roster coming off of the bench at all positions. We are grateful to have role players to go along with our five returning letter winners. They all have made notable improvements.”
About his current roster, Desmett commented, “We have been fortunate to receive a solid freshmen class. Our staff has welcomed seven freshmen to the team this year. We are most excited about the opportunities they present to the squad. And of course, this will add to the ability of our JV program and deepen our bench at the varsity level.”
As far as a key to success this year, Desmett added, “The key to our season is developing young talent into contributors quickly. And our upperclassmen need to get us off to a quick start while the freshmen become accustomed to the level of competition.”
It should be noted, at this time, the Lady Tide do not have any sophomores on the current roster.
Desmett will be assisted by coaches Jim Hoyt, Alex Olson and Heather Olson.
The Lady Tide open season play on Friday with a home game against West Branch with the junior varsity tipping off at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
