Filmmakers from around the world will be at the Rowland Theatre in Philipsburg from Friday, Nov. 9, through Thursday, Nov. 15, for the Veritas Film Fest.

The week-long film festival is sponsored by Veritas, a film company founded by central Pennsylvania native Spencer Folmar, a Hollywood filmmaker.

According to Folmar, Veritas means “truth” in Latin, and the festival will share and promote films that are truthful in representation, expression and beauty.

Films will also be shown at the Ritz Theater in Clearfield throughout the festival.

The festival will begin at 9 a.m. daily at both venues and end at approximately 5 p.m., with an award ceremony held nightly at the Rowland Theatre.

Following the submission of hundreds of films and scripts from around the world, the top entries have been selected as finalists that will be shown each day.

Professional judges then select the winners for each category, with awards being presented in a ceremony each evening at the Rowland Theatre.

The daily categories are: Friday, Feature Films; Saturday, Student Films; Sunday, Hard Faith Films; Monday, Made in Pennsylvania Films; Tuesday, Documentary/Experimental Films; Wednesday, Screenplays; and Thursday, Short Films.

Admission will be $10 for a daily pass and $35 for a week-long pass. Passes are available at the theater and online at veritasfest.com.

On the opening day of the festival, Nov. 9, live music will be presented at the theater by Fred Myers & The Redneck Majority during the lunch break from 12:30 p.m. -1 p.m.

Folmar, who coined the term Hard Faith with his edgy faith-based films and who has just completed filming his latest movie, Shooting Heroin, wants the public to attend the film festival.

“A film festival is vital to the film ecosystem. It provides screenwriters and independent filmmakers the opportunity to get their films in front of a live audience and professional critics,” he said. “Film festivals highlight the worldwide passion of cinema and showcase the value of film.”

The complete schedule of all the films selected for the festival and the times of their showings are listed at veritasfilms.com.
