CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Supervisors authorized Solicitor James Naddeo last night to write a letter to the Clearfield Municipal Authority, asking the authority to take over the water and sewer lines in the township.
Supervisor Randy Powell said CMA has said in the past they would take over the lines if they met specifications. When asked by the media, Powell said it would most likely be a matter of the two boards, or their solicitors, negotiating the terms of the take-over.
Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner remarked that it was something that probably should have been done long before.
Also, under the subject of sewer, Code Enforcement Officer Debra Finkbeiner clarified what the Sept. 1 deadline means in regards to residents removing inflow and infiltration from their laterals.
She said the deadline is in regards to the township and CMA closing the sanitary sewer overflow in Hyde, under order from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
Finkbeiner then explained that regardless of the consent order, the residents are still expected to remove I&I from their lines and that will be an ongoing matter.
And, regardless of what happens Sept. 1., the township will still be checking laterals and sending letters to residents, giving them 60 days to correct the problems.
She added that they also need to remember to have third-party inspection of the work and have documentation of those inspections sent to the township.
Police Chief Doug Clark informed the supervisors that the police regularly receive phone calls from concerned residents regarding scam phone calls.
He reminds residents that if they receive a call telling them they’ve won a prize but have to pay money to receive the prize, hang up. And if you have questions, call the police.
The supervisors also opened bids for driving surface aggregate for projects on Evans and Hogback roads. Three bids were received with the lowest bid from New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. at $78,817.50.
The next lowest bid was from Glenn O. Hawbaker at $103,960, a difference of $25,142.50 and the supervisors, while voting to accept the bid from New Enterprise, asked Roadmaster Ron Woodling to review the bid and ensure that New Enterprise met all of the specifications, though they speculated that it was due to New Enterprise being able to supply their own materials.
In other business, the township is looking for residents to serve on a sub-committee of the Recreation Park Board to create a dog park. The township is also accepting letters and resumes until the end of the work day Aug. 14 for positions on the work crew.
Residents are reminded of a family fun day scheduled for Aug. 18 at the park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., sponsored by the Clearfield Greater Area Chamber of Commerce.
The day will include games, prizes music and so on. Food and refreshments will be sold and all proceeds will benefit the Chamber BSA Exploring Program.
After the meeting, the supervisors met with Naddeo in executive session regarding threatened litigation, but no action was taken.
