PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Clearfield Area High School baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a 10-4 win over Punxsutawney in the completion of a suspended game at Rich Kuntz Memorial Field Friday afternoon.
The Bison, who led 6-2 at the end of three innings when rain halted the April 11 meeting, added three runs in the sixth before Caullin Reed capped the non-league victory with the first home run of his career leading off the seventh.
After Allan Myers and Reese Wilson reached base on errors and Eli Glass was walked in the sixth, Ty Bender drew his fourth walk of the game for one run and Seth Bumbarger and Jake Sorbera picked up RBIs with sacrifice flies.
Glass, the winning pitcher, and Sorbera worked two innings apiece in tune-ups for a rematch with the Chucks Wednesday in the District 9 Class AAAA semifinals.
Glass allowed two hits, two walks and one run with one strikeout in his first outing since April 28. The junior right-hander has won all five of his decisions.
Sorbera gave up three hits and one run, walking one.
On the original date, sophomore southpaw Cade Walker made his varsity debut with three good innings, pitching one-hit ball with two strikeouts and two walks. After the Chucks scored two unearned runs in the first inning, he retired seven of the last eight batters he faced.
Clearfield built its early lead by taking advantage of walks and Punxsy misplays with five of its six runs off Brandon Matthews unearned.
Wilson and Glass had two singles apiece as the Bison managed eight hits off four Punxsy hurlers who combined for seven strikeouts and seven walks.
Clearfield heads into the postseason at 11-5, having lost four games to the weather, three earlier this week.
The defending champion Bison are the No. 3 seed, while the No. 2 Chucks will be putting a 9-9 record on the line next week.
Fans should note that the first pitch has been pushed up to 4 p.m.
