CLEARFIELD – A Coalport woman has been accused of stealing more than $3,400 from her mother while she was in a local nursing home.

Joyce Terressa Vanelli, 51, has been charged by Clearfield-based state police with six counts each of forgery, F2; theft by unlawful taking, M1; and receiving stolen property, M1.

Vanelli waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court. Bail has been set at $5,000 unsecured.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Vanelli stole checks belonging to her mother from her (mother’s) residence in Glen Hope Borough.

She allegedly used them for her own personal needs while her mother was in a nursing home for physical rehabilitation for several months.

Between Oct. 14, 2016 and Jan. 21, 2017, Vanelli issued six checks, which totaled $3,463.52, according to the affidavit.

Vanelli’s mother didn’t issue any of the checks herself. She also didn’t authorize for any of the checks to be issued to Vanelli, state police said.
