Treasure Lake POA Requests Bids for Operation of Ski Lodge

TREASURE LAKE – Last spring the Treasure Lake Property Owners Association announced that the Treasure Lake Ski Lodge would be closed as of April 30 after 16 years of management by George Moore Enterprises Inc.

In a statement previously released to GANT News, TLPOA said there was an obligation to protect the financial interests and safety of constituents as part of the decision.

Some of the concerns noted in the statement included delinquent lease payments, lien obligations to both the state and federal governments, safe maintenance of the Ski Lodge property and failure to maintain insurance coverage.

Now, just over eight months later, the TLPOA has released a request for proposals for a new contractor to take over operations of the lodge, which is a 14,000-square-foot facility, including restaurant/tavern facilities.

Contractors interested in operating the lodge have until Jan. 30 to submit a sealed bid to TLPOA.

A spokesperson stated that while there isn’t any fixed timeline for announcement of who would be awarded a contract, it is reasonable to expect at least a month to review proposals.

After that, the spokesperson indicated there will be a time period to follow up by asking any potential contractors to come and do an oral presentation to the board in person.

At that time, the board will ask potential contractors questions about their plans for the lodge. After the extensive review process, the board will meet and discuss the bids and make a decision.

If all goes well, the public may be able to expect an announcement by spring.  However, no timeline beyond the due date of bids has been set.

The spokesperson said that TLPOA is looking for someone willing to effectively take on the operations of the Ski Lodge, which has long had a strong connection not only to the Treasure Lake community, but also to DuBois and surrounding communities.

If there aren’t any bids received or none of the bids meet the requirements or needs of TLPOA, the board will then review options and take action. However, no firm decision has been made on how to proceed in that event.

Anyone interested in submitting a bid or reviewing the full RFP may contact the TLPOA offices at 814-371-0711.
