BROOKVILLE – The Brookville Area High School’s girl basketball team evened its season record to 2-2 with a 65-48 victory Monday night at home against the Clearfield Lady Bison.
It was a fast start for the Lady Bison squad as they raced out to a quick 7-0 lead on baskets by Nikki Brossard, Megan Durandettta (hitting a three pointer), and Brooke Cline.
Durandetta, a freshman, hit another three with 3:50 left in the first quarter that kept the Clearfield margin at seven, 10-3.
Brookville outscored the Lady Bison 7-2 the rest of the first frame and trailed by just two, 12-10, after one.
The Lady Bison maintained the lead until Morgan Johnson hit a two pointer at the 4:10 point of the second eight minutes, giving the Lady Raiders its first lead at 20-19.
Clearfield and Brookville would trade buckets over the next few minutes with the lead changing hands a couple of times before the Raiders took a 30-27 edge into halftime.
The start of the third quarter, in fact the entire third quarter, was not good for the Lady Bison cause, who didn‘t score its first second half points until about 50 seconds were left in the third.
Brookville started the third quarter with a 14-0 run before Durandetta hit another three, her fourth of the game, with approximately 46 seconds left until quarter number four.
However, the damage was done, as Brookville took the third stanza 15-5 to take a somewhat comfortable lead into the final eight minutes, 45-32.
The Bison did cut the Raider lead down to nine at 45-36 with plenty of time left, 7:20, on a basket by junior guard Alayna Ryan.
That would be the closest the Lady Bison would come the rest of the contest.
Ryan led Clearfield with 13 points, with Durandetta and Cline each adding 12.
The Lady Raider offense was paced by Kira Powell scoring 14 points and Madison Johnson, off of the bench, dumping in 10.
In all, 11 players put points on the board for Brookville.
Clearfield was 11 of 18 from the foul line while the Lady Raiders hit on 8 of 12 free throws.
The Lady Raiders also won the junior varsity game, defeating the Lady Bison 42-21.
Clearfield (1-4) is home on Tuesday night with a Mountain League game against visiting Bellefonte. JV action starts at 6 pm.
