CLEARFIELD – A Luthersburg man was sentenced Monday in Clearfield County Court for using his employer’s credit card for personal purchases.
Mark Andrew Hartzfeld, 34, pleaded guilty to a felony count of access device fraud before Judge Fredric J. Ammerman, who sentenced him to three to six months in state prison.
This sentence will run consecutive to his current state prison sentence of nine months to three years that he received for a probation revocation on a previous theft charge.
Hartzfeld must pay restitution of more than $2,100.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, in August of 2016, police were called to investigate a theft from the Brady Township-Troutville Borough Water Association.
The supervisor told officers that Hartzfeld, who is an employee, was permitted to use a Visa credit card as well as a Lowe’s charge account for water association business but was required to turn in his receipts to confirm the expenses were for the business.
A secretary told the supervisor that the April/May Visa statement had discrepancies. She was advised to cancel Hartzfeld’s privileges, but the May/June cycle was already being charged.
It was reported that Hartzfeld charged $20.27 in April without turning in a receipt, $726.24 in May and $660.64 before he was removed from the account in June. He had also charged $448.32 on the Lowe’s account giving him a total of $1,855.47 in unauthorized charges.
