Sandy Township Passes Resolution Prohibiting Small Casinos

DUBOIS – During Monday night’s regular meeting, the Sandy Township Supervisors passed a resolution to prohibit the location of small casinos in the township.

The supervisors provided a definition of a small casino, which is an establishment with 300 to 700 slot machines and up to 50 table-based games.

Supervisor Mark Sullivan cast the only nay vote on the resolution.

In other business, the supervisors authorized Manager Dave Monella, along with his staff, to write an elder cottage ordinance for the township.

Elder cottages are a “tiny home” that is placed on the property of a senior’s family member. It’s meant to give a senior the option to live in a home and have assistance close by.

After the ordinance has been prepared by officials, the supervisors said it would still be weeks before it gets consideration and put to a vote.

The supervisors also voted to amend the township’s code to match DuBois City’s new requirements for industrial sewer use.
