DUBOIS – The DuBois Area Historical Society’s 10th annual Spirit of DuBois Lantern Walk will return to the DuBois Campus of Penn State University on Saturday, Oct. 7.
The theme for the walk is “Life With the DuBois Family.” The DuBois Campus of Penn State is the original DuBois family property.
The original DuBois Mansion was built on the site and the still standing Symco House, part of the tour, was the second DuBois family home.
“This year the lantern walk is themed around people who worked for the DuBois family, a DuBois version of ‘Downtown Abbey,’” said Tom Schott, lantern walk chairman.
“Some research completed over the last year provided the information about the DuBois employees and their duties, making this script possible. We believe those attending will all learn something new about the DuBois family.”
Admission to the Spirit of DuBois Lantern Walk is $5 for adults and $3 for students, with children sixth grade and younger free if accompanied by an adult.
All proceeds benefit the DuBois Area Historical Society. The program is suitable for all ages. Parking is available on campus.
The first tour will leave from the Hiller Building (student union) at 5 p.m. with additional walks leaving every 20 minutes thereafter.
To make advance reservations for a specific walk time, telephone 814-371-4627 between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m., starting Sept. 20. Tour groups will be limited to 20 people.
Walk-ins are also welcome and will be assigned to the next available tour. The walk is a little less than a mile and will last a little over an hour.
Performing this year are: Ella Cherico, Ruben Cherico, Simeon Cherico, Donna Chollock, Darius Clement, Beecher Klingensmith, Bryce Miknis, Robin Powers, Nancy Roseman, Tom Shade, Sue Stapleton, Caleb Thompson, Hannah Thompson and Levi Thompson.
Last year, 294 people attended the lantern walk, the third highest attendance in the event’s history and the fourth straight year attendance had topped 250. The first nine lantern walks have a total attendance of 1,972.
