CLEARFIELD – Douglas J. Clark was sworn in as the new Lawrence Township police chief on Monday at the Clearfield County Courthouse.
The ceremony was conducted by Brian K. Spencer, prothonotary and clerk of courts, and his deputy Steve Marshall in Courtroom No. 2.
Spencer requested that Marshall, who formerly served in the Pennsylvania State Police, to administer the oath of office to Clark.
Clark was hired by the Lawrence Township supervisors on May 16 as the new police chief. Clark recently retired from the state police after more than 25 years of service.
Clark is originally from the Murraysville area, and he served his country for six years while in the U.S. Army after high school.
After his military service, he was accepted into the PSP Academy. His first posting was at the state police’s Clearfield barracks.
Clark moved around a lot while serving with the state police with his final post being lieutenant in Harrisburg in the drug law enforcement division.
“But I never had the opportunity to police my own backyard,” he said. He plans to actively battle the drug crisis and noted it as his area of expertise.
“I’m looking forward to working with the fine officers of the Lawrence Township Police Department and serving the community as police chief.”
