CLEARFIELD – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will begin bridge preservation work next week on four structures in the Clearfield area.

Repairs and preservation work on these bridges will keep them in useful service for years to come.

All four bridges are located on Route 879 (Clearfield Bypass) between Park Avenue and River Road.

Starting July 5, drivers will encounter lane closures along the bypass, with two lanes of traffic maintained throughout the project time frame. Motorists should be alert for slow moving traffic in and near the work zones. All work is weather and schedule dependent.

Swank Construction Company of New Kensington is the contractor on this $2.6 million project. Work will include deck repairs, rebar installation, concrete repairs joint sealing, strip seal dam replacement, epoxy surface treatment for bridge decks, paving, guide rail improvements and miscellaneous items. Work is currently expected to be finished by the end of 2017.

PennDOT reminds drivers to be cautious in work zones, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.

For more information on projects occurring or being bid this year, those made possible by or accelerated by the state transportation funding plan (Act 89), or those on the department’s Four and Twelve Year Plans, visit www.projects.penndot.gov.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 825 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA Web site.
