CLEARFIELD – A proposed Classic Car Hill Climb event will not be held in Clearfield Borough.
At Thursday’s regular meeting, Solicitor F. Cortez Bell III told the Clearfield Borough Council that he had received an e-mail from the organizers of the event. Bell said the e-mail simply stated that the event will not be held in the borough, but it did not say where it will be held.
According to previously published GANT News articles, Kim McCullough spoke about plans for the event at last month’s meeting. She said the event would be held Aug. 19 in conjunction with the Central Mountain Region’s antique car show on Aug. 20.
McCullough had asked that council to close all of Pine Street and sections of South Fourth Street and Cemetery Road from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. She said the vehicles would have attempted to climb Pine Street one at a time and the event was not a “race.”
McCullough said she had insurance documents and had applied to PennDOT for permission to use the state roads. She also said the Central Mountain Region’s car show and the Chamber of Commerce have received a grant from the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority to jointly promote the two events.
However, Bell and members of the council had expressed concerns about traffic control, public safety and access to the resident’s homes in the area. They had requested that McCullough allow the council to review her paperwork for the event and said they would give her an answer.
Also at the meeting, the council voted to approve:
- Posting “No Parking” signs on Pine Street from Williams to Front Streets at the Riverwalk.
- The county’s 2017 Hazard Mitigation Plan
- Hiring Ethan Fritz as a part-time patrol officer pending testing.
