BIGLER TOWNSHIP – A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a local woman at approximately 7:35 a.m. Friday on Route 53/Green Acres Road in Bigler Township, according to state police at Clearfield.

State police have identified the woman as Cindy L. Gausman, 34, of Brisbin; she was pronounced dead at the scene. An 11-year-old girl who was a passenger in her vehicle was flown to UPMC Altoona with “suspected serious injury.”

State police say Gausman was traveling south at a high rate of speed. She reportedly failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, causing her vehicle to cross over into the oncoming lane and strike a tree.

The girl was extricated from the vehicle; she was flown to the Altoona trauma unit for treatment, according to the state police report.

Clearfield County Coroner Mike Morris said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. His office may order medical records for an autopsy to see if there were any medical reasons for the crash.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Ramey, Houtzdale and Madera fire companies, Houtzdale/Ramey Emergency Medical Services and the Clearfield County Coroner’s Office.
