CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners have announced the first public meeting for the 2017 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application will be held to obtain citizens of non-entitlement municipalities’ comments on how funds are needed in their communities.
This meeting will be held at 6 p.m. May 23, at the Clearfield County Administrative Building conference room located at 212 E. Locust St., Clearfield.
Clearfield County has not received its CDBG funding allocation from the Department of Community and Economic Development. However, county officials anticipate receiving approximately $228,000 in funding with about $190,000 for projects.
Funds may be used for a variety of community development purposes, including: public improvements (water, sewer and or stormwater construction, sidewalks, street reconstruction, etc.), the rehabilitation of deteriorated housing units, the removal of architectural barriers, mitigation of blighted/slum areas and energy conservation projects.
According to Lisa Kovalick, community development specialist, no less than 70 percent of CDBG funding will be used to assist projects where at least 51 percent of the project’s beneficiaries are of low- or moderate-income (LMI).
A presentation will be made that includes prior uses of funds, project updates, allowable uses, national objectives, fundability requirements, as well as federal and state regulations.
Interested municipalities and citizens will be given the opportunity to offer suggestions for the development of Clearfield County’s FFY 2017 CDBG Application and the Three-Year Plan for FFY 2018-2020.
