WILLIAMSPORT — Sophomore linebacker Nick Kovalick (Clearfield Area H.S.) was involved in a career-high nine tackles and junior center Brad Stubbs (Curwensville Area H.S.) also was a starter in Lycoming’s longest game in history Saturday.
Kovalick, who made five solo stops, was credited with 1.5 tackles for losses of three yards and also forced a fumble that flipped field position in the fourth quarter as the Warriors forced overtime with a late touchdown and matched Widener’s TD in the second extra period before falling 24-21 when the visitors sent the 1,567 fans away from David Person Field with a field goal in the fourth overtime.
Kovalick is tied for fourth on the team with 27 tackles, including 18 solo efforts, and is tops in tackles for losses with 4.5 for 15 yards. One resulted in a safety.
Lycoming (2-3) is 1-3 in the Middle Atlantic Conference, while Widener (3-1) sits in second place at 3-0.

BALTIMORE — Junior offensive lineman Jon Janocko (Clearfield) made his fourth start at left guard as Juniata held its own with undefeated Johns Hopkins into the second quarter before the Centennial Conference leaders exploded for 17 more points on their way to a 52-17 victory.
The 775 fans at Homewood Field saw the hosts move to 5-0 with their fourth CC win while dropping the Eagles to 2-2 in the conference and 3-2 for the season.

GREENVILLE — Sophomore linebacker Dusty Maines (Clearfield) assisted on one tackle in his second appearance for Thiel as the Tomcats fell to visiting Washington & Jefferson 62-14 with 1,200 on hand at Alumni Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Maines had one tackle and one assist in the season opener for the Tomcats, who are 1-2 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference and 2-3 overall.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
BUENA VISTA, Va. — Four days after recording an assist 18 seconds into her Penn State Harrisburg career, freshman forward Raquel Grice (Clearfield) earned her first goal by dribbling through Southern Virginia’s defense in the 82nd minute to cap the Lions’ 3-1 Capital Athletic Conference road win Saturday night.
Grice came off the injury list to make an auspicious debut with a through ball that set up Kristen Stark’s goal that gave the Lions the early lead against visiting Eastern, but they dropped their non-conference finale 2-1 at Middletown.
Grice was second in shots with four, two on goal, against Eastern and had two of Penn State Harrisburg’s shots, both on goal, against Southern Virginia.
The Lions are 4-7 with a 1-1 CAC start.

CLARION — A starter all season, junior Carlee Freeberg (Clearfield) logged more than 260 minutes of action as a midfielder for Clarion in three games last week.
After playing to a double-overtime scoreless tie with Malone in a non-conference duel at Canton, Ohio, Tuesday, the Golden Eagles came out on the short end of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference home games against Lock Haven, 3-2 in double overtime, Friday and Mansfield, 3-0, Saturday.
Freeberg has one assist and one shot on goal.
Clarion is 2-8-2 with a 2-7-1 PSAC record.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Sophomore midfielder Tessa Munshower (Clearfield) made a brief appearance late in the first half of Penn State Behrend’s 3-0 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win over host D’Youville Tuesday, Sept. 27.
She has registered one assist and three shots in six games for the Lions, who share the AMCC lead with Hilbert and La Roche at 3-0 and are 7-4 overall.

MEN’S GOLF
NEW CASTLE — Thiel junior Jason Thorp (Curwensville) shot a 4-over-par 76 to claim third place in the Westminster Fall Invitational at the New Castle Country Club Monday, Sept. 26.
He has posted four top-three finishes.
The event attracted 61 golfers from 12 teams, with the Tomcats finishing fifth with a 325 total.
Two days later, the Tomcats traveled to Pittsburgh for the Carnegie Mellon Fall Invitational at the Long Vue Country Club, and Thorp turned in a 43-37-80 that was tied for 19th among the 32 players from five teams.
Thorp and Will Malady share top honors for Thiel, which wound up with a 332 score.

NEW CASTLE — Junior Brett Gardner (Curwensville) carded an 87 and Pitt-Bradford placed 10th in the 12-team Westminster Fall Invitational at the New Castle Country Club Monday, Sept. 26.
He finished in a tie for 39th among the 61 golfers with the third highest score for the Panthers, who totaled 342.
