Orvis E. “Rusty” Borst, 96, of Clearfield died Thursday, May 26, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Borst was born March 26, 1920 in Lawrence Township, the son of Alban and Lona (McGaughey) Borst. He had worked in the coal industry as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a member of the Clearfield American Legion Post No. 6, the Clearfield Eagles and the Glen Richey Fire Company.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II.
Mr. Borst enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking and gardening.
He is survived by four children, Emery O. Borst and his companion, Joann Jarvie of Clymer, Margaret L. “Peggy” Bloom and her husband, Lloyd of Clearfield, Mary Jane Pentz and her husband, Ray of Gardners and Carl R. Borst and his wife, Donna of Williamsburg, Va., 17 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary M. Borst, who died Feb. 20, 2007 and to whom he was married Sept. 3, 1938; three brothers, Robert, James and Leroy Borst and four sisters, Annie Ogden, Vera Thompson, Iva Mae Graham and Madaline Kubista.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1 at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with the Rev. Stephen D. Shields officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Clearfield Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 31 and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1 at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
