June M. Huffman of Clearfield and formerly of Pittsburgh went home to the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015.
Peacefully and surrounded by her family, she died at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Judith and C. Alan Walker, of Clearfield.
She was a 1938 graduate of Langley High School and a 1940 graduate of Grace Martin’s School of Business.
From 1940 until 1945, she was employed by Mellon Bank at the main office in Pittsburgh.
On Dec. 8, 1945, she wed Donald Dale Huffman of Bolivar, Ohio.
In 1942, she attended a USO dance in Asbury Park, NJ, with girlfriends while vacationing with her family. At that time, servicemen purchased tickets for 10 cents to ask a lady to dance.
Those 10 cents turned out to be the best investment Mr. Huffman ever made. Three years later, she married him in Pittsburgh, and that day began a lifetime of love and commitment, as they celebrated 64 years of marriage.
She had many interests in life. With her love of flowers, she was a member of both Penn Hebron and Blackridge Garden Clubs, where she planned and was hostess for many charitable fundraisers.
She was an avid bowler and organized activities for the Union Switch and Signal/Westinghouse couples bowling league.
She enjoyed golf, especially with her husband, and was a member of the Longue Vue Club in Verona. She spent countless hours as a leader in both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was well-known for her cooking skills and artistry as a seamstress.
She will be remembered by her family as the “best storyteller east of the Mississippi.” She will never be forgotten for the unconditional love she shared with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as extended family and friends. She lighted their lives and delighted in their pride of accomplishments.
Mr. and Mrs. Huffman are survived by a son and daughter, Donald D. Huffman Jr. and his partner, Nancy L. Williams of San Mateo, Calif., and Judith Walker and her husband, C. Alan Walker of Clearfield.
In addition to her children, she is survived by three grandchildren, C. Scott Huffman, M.D., of Long Beach, Calif., Derek Walker and his wife, Stephanie of Bigler and Courtney Spencer and her husband, Andy of Clearfield.
She is survived by five great-grandchildren, Wynston and Broderick Walker and Cole, Kardon and Kendall Spencer; a brother-in-law, Russell Ross of Boliver, Ohio; a sister-in-law Kay Adams of Pittsburgh; a special nephew, Arthur B. Cahall III and his wife, Charlotte of Harrington, Del.; and numerous other dear nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don, on Oct. 10, 2010; her parents, Arthur B. and Lillian M. Cahall; and her only brother, Arthur B. Cahall Jr., a B29 bomber pilot in World War II, who was killed when his plane crashed on Aug. 8, 1945, and who never met his infant son.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at The Presbyterian Church of Clearfield. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
