FOOTBALL

SLIPPERY ROCK — After sitting out two games while undergoing concussion protocol, redshirt senior strong safety Derek Morgan (Clearfield) returned to action with one tackle and one pass breakup as No. 15-ranked Slippery Rock made it a three-way race in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division by nipping Indiana University of Pennsylvania 40-39 at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Saturday night.

An missed extra point after IUP’s final score in the fourth quarter enabled The Rock to tie the Crimson Hawks and Clarion at 4-1 going into the last two Saturdays of the PSAC season.

Morgan sealed the nationally-televised (ESPN3) game for the 5,826 fans who braved the showers by defensing IUP’s fourth-and-four pass from the SRU 45 with 1:29 remaining.

Morgan has made 20 stops, including 12 solo tackles, and intercepted one pass in six games for The Rock (7-1).
