Sara Ann Kelly Witherite died peacefully after a short illness Friday, July, 17, 2015 amongst the love of her family.
Affectionately known as “Chuckie,” she was born Feb. 2, 1935 in DuBois, the oldest of four children to Sarah and John Kelly.
She graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1952.
She married the love of her life, James Witherite Sr. on April 11, 1953 and shared their life and love with their eight natural children who multiplied by two, James Jr. and Rita; Marla and Ernie Larson; Mark and Rhonda; Richard and Kelly; Jeanne and Ronald Stahlman; Lisa and David Witherite-Rieg; John and Lisa; and Susan and Michael Weisner. Twenty-five grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren complete their legacy.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family at their Sykesville home, “The Witherite Centre.”
A 15-year breast cancer survivor, she operated a successful income tax preparation service for more than 40 years. She enjoyed her wine, crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy! and Fox News. She never missed the annual Atlantic City girls’ bus trip.
In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her sister, Carol Jean Mehok and her husband, Robert; brother, John “Jack” Kelly and his wife, Beryl; and sister-in-law, Carol Kelly. In addition, her “adopted” daughters, Gay Flanders and Janet Mehok, were very dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Stanley Passierb; a brother, Leroy “Coke” Kelly; and an infant grandchild.
Family and friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home, DuBois.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Richard C. Tomasone at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Sykesville.
Although flowers are appreciated, the family asks that donations be made to the DuBois Catholic Schools at P.O. Box 567, DuBois, PA 15801 and or the charity of the donor’s choice.
