Jeffrey D. Nelson, 60, of Olanta died Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the UPMC Altoona Regional Medical Center, Altoona Hospital Campus.
Born Oct. 23, 1954 in Clearfield, he was the son of Glenn Lewis and Jean Marie (Rea) Nelson.
He had first worked for Penn Line Service in the 1970’s but retired from River Hill Coal Co. as a welder/heavy equipment operator after 35 years of service.
He was affiliated with the Oak Ridge Union Church. He was a former member of the National Rifle Association.
On May 7, 1988 at the former Pine Grove Bethel Church in Glen Richey, he wed the former Jan M. Hudson. She survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, a son and a step-daughter, Tracy Johnson and her husband, Eric of Curwensville, Jody Gawel and her husband, Raymond of Salisbury, Md., Kelly Reed and her husband, Cliff III of Woodland, Joshua Nelson of Olanta and Lorie L. Hand of Renovo.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Maci and Broc Heitsenrether; Tucker and Grace Johnson; Nicholas, Audrey and Benjamin Gawel; Caullin and Kinley Reed; and Dylan and Damian Hand; a sister, Glenna Hipps and her husband, Frank of Olanta; a brother, Timothy Nelson and his wife, Penny of Boardman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sharon Davis and a granddaughter, Carlee Reed.
At the request of Mr. Nelson, there will be no public visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Gary B. Jewart officiating. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.
