CLEARFIELD – Members of the Clearfield Borough Council reminded that there would not be any Christmas tree pick-up again this year during the Public Works Committee meeting on Thursday night.
Council emphasized that Christmas trees are to be taken by residents to the borough’s compost site. It was specifically stated that there aren’t any drop-off locations, such as at the Clearfield Driving Park and Rebecca Park.
“It isn’t my department, but maybe we should go back to the way it was?” stated Councilman Richard Stewart. Stewart stated that if Clearfield residents have ignored press releases and other forms of notification regarding the termination of Christmas tree pick-up years ago, the borough should resume doing so.
“No, they need to stop,” answered Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott. She stated that the borough would resort to using game cameras to identify individuals if it becomes necessary.
John Toto of Toto’s Tailoring & Tux Shop approached council about two streetscape trees that he stated obscured his business.
After debate, Stott stated she’d approach the Shade Tree Commission regarding the maintenance of the trees around town. It was noted that tree maintenance likely wouldn’t occur until spring when they’d be the most obscuring.
According to Clearfield Fire Chief Todd Kling, the aerial truck passed its inspection. The process, he stated, took six hours of testing. Kling added that the inspector commented about the aerial truck being very well maintained.
Kling stated that the Santa tour will take place on Dec. 20. The community, he stated, is invited to participate, and the tour will begin around 5 p.m.
Police Chief Vincent McGinnis reported there were 468 incidents last month. Also, last month he stated there was a “warrant day” and six officers, with assistance from the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office and area communities, issued 53 warrants. McGinnis stated that it resulted in $1,500 in collections.
