DUBOIS – Perry Bowser, engineer, reported to the Sandy Township Supervisors last night that there is progress on the planned water and sewer interconnect between Sandspur and Wayne roads.
Township Manager Dave Monella added that ââĤas soon as we get the approval of the land owner weâre anticipating getting the water and sewer guys out there to get started.â  He further stated that the township’s intention to work through the winter as weather permits.
Also, it was noted that the Dec. 1 township meeting has been cancelled in anticipation of the first day of buck season. The supervisors agreed to schedule a make-up meeting if needed.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, Darlene Marshall, a resident of neighboring Brady Township, spoke to the supervisors regarding the Environmental Protection Agencyâs (EPA) recent judgment to issue a permit to Windfall Oil and Gas for a disposal injection well near Highland Street Extension.
Marshall explained that the ââĤpermit is not valid if it is appealed until an appeal decision is madeâĤâ She further went on to request the townshipâs support in writing a petition for appeal to the Environmental Appeals Board (EAB).
Marshall requested and received an agreement from the supervisors to submit a letter of appeal based off of the close proximately of Sandy Township residents to the proposed disposal injection well site.
The injection well would dispose of waste from the Marcellus gas industry. According to Marshall, because of faults in the area as a result of other wells and a coal mine, there is a potential for water contamination, which would affect both Brady and Sandy township residents.
