Boy Scout Troop 9 of Clearfield recently took a canoe and kayak trip down the West Branch of the Susquehanna River from Deer Creek Bridge to Karthaus.

A total of 15 boats were put on the water and the scouts used skills taught to them during the canoeing merit badge and put them to the test on a 16-mile trip on the river.

The remote trip during the last weekend of April included seeing a bald eagle perched in a tree nearby.  Wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour challenged the scouts during the day.

Those scouts who made the trip were Jason Bell, Justin Bell, Porter Kling, Keagan Hess, Jude Pallo, Noah Johnson, Ben Fye, William Maines, Pratan Steiner, David McKenzie, Richie Shaffer, Nathan Brubaker, Levi Walk, Max Forcey, Matt Bell and Caleb Eisenhauer.

Leaders and parents were, Mike Mckenzie, Pat Pallo, Mark Maines, Pete Hess, Tim Eisenhauer, Bill White, Billy White, Chris, Shaffer, Jamie Lynch and Ken Bell.
