CLEARFIELD – Central Pennsylvania Community Action (CPCA) has been selected as the recipient of a $15,000 grant from the Clearfield County Affordable Housing Trust Fund.

In 2009, the Clearfield County Board of Commissioners created the county’s first Affordable Housing Trust Fund and established a Clearfield County Housing Taskforce. Both created with the intention of working together to address housing issues and needs within Clearfield County.

As well, the CPCA received a matching donation of $15,000 from Clearfield Bank & Trust. These donations to CPCA will be used for the CHORE program. The Chore Service Program provides for home maintenance tasks, normally done by family members, and needed to enable a person to remain in his/her own home, if unable to personally perform such tasks and if there is no other responsible person available or capable of providing the service.

The program is geared toward assisting elderly, disabled and low income individuals. The CHORE Service is provided to maintain the person’s health and safety in the home, not for aesthetic improvements to the home or yard. Repairs may include building small wheelchair ramps, installing bathroom grab bars, replacing a hot water heater, repairing or replacing unsafe steps, etc.

Some of the projects completed have included replacing or repairing hot water heaters, storm doors, broken indoor water line and piping, unsafe porch steps, hand railings on porches and stairs, smoke detectors and safety rails for tubs and toilets.

In 2013, the CPCA served more than 15,900 unduplicated individuals through our vast array of services. The CPCA’s primary services includes housing services, weatherization, rental housing, case management, food services, heating and utility assistance, employment assistance and training, consumer information and referral, and transportation services.

The CPCA’s mission is “strengthening our communities by helping families and individuals in Centre and Clearfield counties to become self-sufficient.”  For more information on CPCA programs or to apply for the CHORE program, please call CPCA at 814-765-1551 or 800-822-2610.
