Fire Devours DuBois Country Club
DUBOIS – A fire devoured the DuBois Country Club after starting at approximately 2 a.m. Monday at 10 Lakeside Ave., DuBois.
Upon arrival fire crews encountered a “heavy” structure fire. Fire crews, however, were evacuated prior to the roof’s collapse, said fire officials.
St. Marys Fire Ruled Accidental
ST. MARYS – A fire has been ruled accidental in nature after ripping through a residence Sunday night at 572 S. St. Marys St., in St. Marys, reported the state police at Ridgway.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal, the St. Marys City police and the Crystal Fire Department investigated the origin and cause of the fire. The fire heavily damaged a two-story, wooden-framed residence.
Three NY Residents Jailed on Drug Charges
CLEARFIELD – Three New York residents have been arraigned on drug charges and incarcerated at the Clearfield County Jail, according to the Lawrence Township police.
Edward Allen and Shaking Saunders, both of Far Rockaway, NY, and Lashanda Mount of Saratoga Springs, NY were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Hawkins. Bail has been set at $100,000 for both Allen and Saunders and $50,000 for Mount.

THON Raises $13M, DuBois Contributes Record $17,000
DUBOIS – Evan Aravich and Jessica Metzger can finally rest. The designated Penn State DuBois THON dancers both lasted through the entire 46-hour dance marathon at the Bryce Jordan Center this weekend.
Along the way, they helped to break two THON records. The overall THON total came in at $13,343,517, the most the event has made yet.
CASD Approves New Curriculum/Courses
CLEARFIELD – With the upcoming school building consolidation, the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors approved new science and math courses, as well as possible electives to be offered at the junior-senior high school campus during the next academic year at Monday night’s combined committee and board meetings.

Residents Continue Opposition of Proposed Disposal Injection Well
CLEARFIELD – Two Brady Township residents continued voicing opposition to a proposed disposal injection well being drilled in their neighborhood during the public comment period at Tuesday’s Clearfield County Commissioner’s meeting.
Two-and-a-half years ago, Windfall Oil & Gas of Falls Creek proposed a frack/brine fluid disposal injection well to be located on Highland Street Extension in Brady Township. Frank Zelman is the landowner and lease holder with Windfall Oil & Gas.

More than $228M to be Invested in Penelec Area
READING – As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the durability and flexibility of its electric system, FirstEnergy Corp. plans to invest $228 million in 2014 in service reliability infrastructure upgrades in its Pennsylvania Electric Company (Penelec) 31-county service territory. This represents about a $66 million increase compared to what the company invested in similar infrastructure projects in the region last year.
Woman Accused of Selling Heroin Waives Hearing
CLEARFIELD – A woman accused of selling heroin to a drug task force officer waived her right to a preliminary hearing in all seven cases on Wednesday during Centralized Court at the Clearfield County Jail.
Schnecksville Man Waives Charges in Aggravated Assault Case
CLEARFIELD – A Schnecksville man accused of causing a disturbance at a local establishment and then resisting police waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday during Centralized Court at the Clearfield County Jail.
Hearing Continued in Clearfield man’s Rape Case
CLEARFIELD – The preliminary hearing for a 21-year-old Clearfield man accused of raping a child was continued until April 23 during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Ronnie Clinton Bass, 21, of Clearfield is facing charges of rape of child; indecent assault of person less than 13 years of age; corruption of minors; statutory sexual assault; sexual assault; aggravated indecent assault; and disorderly conduct. Bass is incarcerated in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Thompson Receives National Recognition for Work in Agriculture
WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) has been recognized for his work on behalf of American farm families with the Golden Plow Award, which is the highest honor the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) presents to members of Congress.
Thompson received the award during a presentation before 150 farmers from Pennsylvania, who are in Washington D.C. to participate in Pennsylvania Farm Bureau’s (PFB) National Legislative Conference. AFBF selected Thompson as the lone recipient of the Golden Plow Award this year.
Woman Involved with Elementary School Burglary Case Waives Hearing
CLEARFIELD – The woman who allegedly agreed to drive two men to cash in stolen copper piping waived her right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday during Centralized Court at the Clearfield County Jail.
Tessa Renee Robison, 23, of Madera has been charged with receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit burglary. These charges stem from her role in the Girard-Goshen Elementary School burglary case.
