May J. Love, 99, of Houtzdale died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 at the Hearthside Nursing Home in State College.
Born Oct. 23, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Richard L. and Lillian (Bell) Williams. Her husband, Lt. Col. Dean S. Love, preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1957.
A graduate of the Philipsburg High School and Bucknell University, she also earned graduate credits at Penn State, the University of Denver, and Indiana University. A teacher by profession, she taught in several locations including Heidelberg, Germany; Ankara, Turkey; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Fort Belvoir, VA. She retired from the Moshannon Valley School District in 1976.
She lived abroad for five years and was an avid traveler, visiting every continent except Antarctica. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Houtzdale Presbyterian Church.
She was the last of her generation. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Marcia Williams Lloyd; a granddaughter, Karen Lloyd; her sister, Miriam Fahringer; and her brother, Dr. Warren Williams.
She is survived by four grandchildren, Kristen Lloyd of New York, NY; Allison Lloyd of State College; Amy Lloyd of Brooklyn, NY; and Mark Lloyd of Watchung, NJ; six great-grandchildren, Sage, Jade and Quinn of State College and Landon, Juliana and Sebastian of Brooklyn, NY; and four nephews.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Friday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc. in Madera.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Houtzdale Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Thomas A.  McCoy officiating. Burial will be at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Houtzdale Presbyterian Church.
