Martin T. Popyack, 101, formerly of Beccaria, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 at Juniper Village at Huntingdon Ridge, North Huntingdon.
He was born in Madera on Oct. 28, 1912, a son of the late Andrew T. and Catherine (Gresek) Popyack.
He worked for 37 years as a wireman for Westinghouse in Turtle Creek. And, as a young man, he worked for 16 years as a coal miner.
He’s survived by two sisters and two brothers, Margaret Temchack of Beccaria; Catherine Hart of Newcomerstown, Ohio; Edward Popyack (Dorothy Ann) of New Stanton and Francis Popyack (Henrietta) of Murrysville. He’s also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn (Blaha) Popyack; his second wife, Helen Popyack; three brothers, Andrew, Joseph and Leonard Popyack; and three sisters, Mary Vanovich, Ann Welch and Irene Solensky.
Mr. Popyack enjoyed music, especially playing the accordion and violin. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Fr. Zab Amar officiating. Burial will follow in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Ramey.
