Joanne G. (Grattan) Baer, 82, of Glen Hope died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.
She was born May 16, 1931 in Madera, a daughter of the late Leo and Vera (Walstrom) Grattan.
She was a 1949 graduate of the Madera High School and a parishioner of St. Basil the Great Roman Catholic Church, Coalport.
She worked as a certified nurse’s aide for many years as a caregiver. She was the owner of the Baer’s Tavern of Irvona from 1981-1986 and also worked at Moon’s Tavern in Smoke Run.
She was a life member of the former Madera V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and a past member of the Curwensville Ladies of the MOOSE.
On July 2, 1954 in Osceola Mills, she married Ralph Baer Jr. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1983.
She’s survived by four children, Daniel R. Baer (Mary Ann) of New Ringgold; Diana L. Kephart (Mickey) of Madera; Ronald B. Baer (Debra) of Glen Hope and Denise K. Williams (Jimmy) of Ebensburg.
She’s survived by four grandchildren, Daniel Baer Jr., Zachary Baer (Kelley), Tanya Jo Thomson (Doug) and Ronald B. Baer II and three great-grandchildren, Braedon M. Baer, Douglas N. Thomson and Bentley N. Thomson.
She’s also survived by two brothers and a sister, Leo Grattan (Julia) of Pittsburgh, Thomas Grattan (Jean) of Brandon, Fla. and Peggy Jones (Robert) of Ramey and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Isaac Jacob Baer; a brother, Jim Grattan; four sisters, Mae Connors, Dorothy Marcille, Patricia Smith and an infant sister.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Friday at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc., Madera.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Fr. Zab Amar officiating. Burial will follow in the Bell Cemetery, Glen Hope.
