CLEARFIELD – Last night, Clearfield Borough Council approved to pay C. Classic Dodge for the disputed repair bill of $1,619.05 for the police department’s 2009 Dodge Charger. Councilmen Fred Wisor and Rick Stewart opposed.
Operations Manager Leslie Stott said she received a letter of explanation from Rob Brown of C. Classic Dodge, with documentation on all the repairs made to the patrol vehicle. Police Chief Vincent McGinnis said he made the decision to have it towed to C. Classic Dodge after it stalled in the middle of an intersection.
Wisor said he didn’t think they should be expected to pay that much when the quoted cost for repairs was $880.
Councilman Tim Winters said he spoke with Brown and believed there was no bad faith on the part of C. Classic Dodge. Stewart said he agreed there was no bad faith, “but in good faith, they should have notified the borough office about the added costs.” He said a simple phone call before the repairs were done would have been in order.
Stott said she did have information from Dotts’ Motors, who will be accepting the vehicle on trade for the new patrol car on order, that the repairs will increase the resale value of the car by about twice the cost of the repairs. She said, and Solicitor F. Cortez “Chip” Bell agreed, that they were obligated to pay the full bill, as they already took possession of the vehicle and it is back in service.
