DUBOIS – At this week’s meeting, the DuBois City Council voted to approve purchasing a residence and three lots for $40,000.
The property is located at 4 N. Clark St. and borders Showers Field. Margaret Leitel, who’s in charge of the property’s trust, approached council with the offer during renovations at the field.
“She was a gem to work with,” said DuBois City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio. He added that Leitel was very “pro-city” throughout the course of the process.
Leitel, he said, had been approached about selling the property over the years. However, she had turned down other offers. He said council’s funds to purchase the property had been set aside from timber sales for capital projects.
Suplizio said he would like to see Showers Field used for tournaments. The field, he said, would also tie into the Beaver Meadow Walkway. Suplizio said families who attended any tournaments there would stay at area hotels and shop at area businesses, which in turn betters the city’s economy.
