CLEARFIELD – CNB Bank, 1 S. Second St., in Clearfield, has invested millions on its expansion project.
After months of construction, CNB Bank is prepared to hire more employees. It plans to utilize its expansion to improve the local economy.
Joseph B. Bower Jr., president and chief executive officer, said once the new wing is finished, there will be space for 75 more employees. “It’s great for the downtown area of Clearfield,” he said.
WJAC-TV: Elk Co. Firefighter Dies in Line of Duty

FOX TOWNSHIP – An Elk County volunteer firefighter has died after suffering a medical incident while at the scene of vehicle accident Saturday.
The Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department said Blaine “Skeeter” Wildnauer Jr., 58, died after suffering cardiac arrest. He was at an accident scene at about 10:45 a.m. on Old Kersey Road in Fox Township.
UPDATE: PSP Investigating Bomb Threat at Jeff Tech
WINSLOW TOWNSHIP – The investigation is continuing into a bomb threat directed toward the Jeff Tech School in Winslow Township, Jefferson County, reported the state police at DuBois today.
The school has since been cleared of all threats, and the scene has been released, state police said.
Earlier today Jeff Tech was evacuated of all students and faculty due to the bomb threat. State police also didn’t permit anyone to travel into the area surrounding the school.
PA Lottery Cash 5 Ticket Worth $225,000 Sold in DuBois
MIDDLETOWN – One jackpot-winning Pennsylvania Lottery Cash 5 ticket worth $225,000 was among 32,460 prize-winning tickets sold statewide for Monday’s drawing.
It correctly matched all five balls, 06-07-23-28-36, to win a jackpot of $225,000, less 25 percent federal withholding.
The retailer, Giant Eagle, 100 N. Main St., DuBois, Clearfield County, earns a $500 selling bonus.
State and Federal Officials to Meet with Sandy Twp. about Flood Assistance
DUBOIS – Sandy Township officials will meet with those from the Federal and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agencies about the flood event that occurred in June, announced Sandy Township Manager Dick Castonguay at Monday’s meeting.
Public assistance applicants participated in a briefing Oct. 28; the briefing involved officials from several communities, said Castonguay. He noted that the meeting with federal and state officials Wednesday will be specifically for Sandy Township.
Thurston Elected Clearfield County Sheriff
CLEARFIELD – Voters elected Wesley B. Thurston, the Republican candidate, as the new Clearfield County Sheriff during Tuesday’s Municipal Election. He will inherit the badge that’s long been worn by Chester A. Hawkins, who announced earlier this year he wouldn’t seek re-election after 36 years of service.
Thurston is from Frenchville in Covington Township, Clearfield County. Thurston received 8,402 votes, or 59.11 percent, while Democratic candidate and former Clearfield Borough Police Chief Jeffrey L. Rhone received 5,787 votes, or 40.71 percent, according to the county Election Central Web site.
CLEARFIELD – At Tuesday’s regular meeting, Fire Chief Elliott Neeper asked the Lawrence Township Supervisors to establish a knox-box ordinance for area businesses.
According to Neeper, businesses would be required to have key safes outside. He said this would allow rapid entry by area fire departments in case of an alarm. He said his request was prompted by a few area businesses having repeated false alarms. Neeper added that in one instance, it took a key holder two hours to arrive at the scene.
Police Release Surveillance Photos from Armed Robbery at Hyde Uni-Mart
LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP – The Lawrence Township police have initiated an investigation into an armed robbery that occurred earlier this week at the Hyde Uni-Mart.
Clearfield Hospital Home Health Reduces Readmission Rates
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Hospital Home Health department has reduced its publicly reported hospitalization rates to below the state and national rates.
DuBois Man Accused of Break-ins Waives Hearing
DuBOIS – A DuBois man who broke into two, different residences looking for his ex-girlfriend recently waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
Shawn Paul Cutlip, 29, 42 Scribner Ave., DuBois, an inmate of the jail, is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, false imprisonment, simple assault, criminal mischief and driving while operator’s license suspended in one case and criminal trespass and habitual offenders in a second case. His bail is $250,000 and $5,000, respectively.
The charges stem from incidents on Oct. 20 and Oct. 21 in Brady and Union Townships.
Christmas Parade Slated in Clearfield
CLEARFIELD – Santa Claus will come to town in a few weeks for the Clearfield YMCA Christmas Parade. The parade was formerly hosted by the Clearfield Elks.
The YMCA will carry on this Christmas tradition for area children on Dec. 7. The parade will get under way at 12 p.m. The YMCA invites any and all organizations to take part in this long-standing and traditional Christmas parade.
Man Accused of Misusing Employer’s Credit Card Waives Hearing
CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville man accused of misusing his employer’s business credit card waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
